Bleeding Hemroids aka HemorrhoidsTypes, Symptoms, Causes and Treatments
BLEEDING HEMROIDS SYMTPOMSHemorrhoids affect over 10 million people per year, one of their most common symptoms, bleeding hemroids, hemorrhoidal bleeding, brings all kinds of symptoms, not the least of which is anxiety. Social embarrassment at potential bleed through and pain are also symptoms of bleeding hemroids. Therefore addressing bleeding hemroids at the earliest possible opportunity is an important matter when dealing with bleeding hemroids. Bleeding hemroids can also be treated by pills, creams or lotions, to relieve, heal and cure bleeding hemroids. Our hemroid medicine treatment page lists some that work with bleeding hemroids. There are two different categories of hemroids, internal and external. Internal hemroids originate above the line that separates outside skin from the mucus membrane of the anal canal, and external hemroids originate below that line. Both can occur simultaneously, which is referred to as mixed hemroids and of course, both types can have bleeding hemroids as well. External hemroids usually hurt a lot more, being near and around a sensitive band of nerves, while internal hemroids have their origin in a part of the body that does not have very many nerves at all. Therefore, while people usually know about external hemroids due to the symptoms of pain and itching long before they develop bleeding hemroids, bright red blood on stool, toilet paper, or in a toilet bowl is frequently the first symptom that internal hemroids are present.
Whenever you suspect you have bleeding hemroids, remember that bleeding from the anal canal suggests you must see a doctor right away. Bleeding hemroids are not the only thing that causes anal bleeding, and some of those other conditions can be quite serious, such as colorectal cancer.
BLEEDING HEMORRHOIDS TREATMENT(Type: Both Internal and External Bleeding Hemroids)Treatment for bleeding hemroids starts out with the same regimen as any kind of hemroid. Get at least twenty to thirty grams of fiber per day into your hemroid diet, some way, some how. Your doctor might recommend close to a hundred while hemroids are present, as straining to defecate is thought to aggravate already existing hemroids and can make hemorrhoidal bleeding either start or get even worse. Good sources of fiber include fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and beans. If these foods are new to your diet, introduce them one food at a time, and allow your body several days to get used to the new food before introducing another. Trying to start eating too many new foods too quickly will get you the fiber you need, but it will also make you miserable with the bloating, gas, and stomach upset that a quick diet change can cause. If the objective is to add fiber to your diet, giving yourself aversion therapy to it by going too fast doesn’t make much sense, so take it slow and easy the same way you would any other lifestyle change. If a simple diet change can’t get you the amount of fiber you need in your diet, there are plenty of fiber supplements out there that can help such as psyllium husks or ground flax seeds. Fiber supplements are not laxatives, they just add roughage to your diet that retains water and keeps stools easy to pass instead of causing you to strain. Never take laxatives on a regular basis without a doctor’s supervision, they are rarely a long term solution for anything and they are not a solution at all for hemorrhoidal bleeding. The watery nature of laxative induced bowel movements can increase the risk for infection of bleeding hemroids and using laxatives can also quickly dehydrate you to an unhealthy degree.
Adding lemon slices to the water can help both drink all of it that you need, and provide some dietary help through natural bioflavonoids to your hemroids as well. Keeping hydrated is even more essential if the hemroids have already started bleeding. After hemroids have started bleeding, any straining whatsoever can keep bleeding wounds from healing and even make them worse. To get rid of bleeding hemroids, also remember to have an exercise regimen. Hemroids are frequently a symptom of a larger systemic problem, the most common of which is that people today do not live the sort of lifestyle that we were designed to. While hemroids can also be found in people with Crohn’s disease or as a side effect of pregnancy, if no other outside cause is known a lifestyle change that includes light exercise is usually in order. Now, as bleeding from anywhere can be a bit disconcerting, not to mention occasionally painful, there are other methods to provide relief for bleeding hemroids whether they are internal or external. Taking sitz baths in plain, warm water two to four times per day for twenty minutes at a time is an effective home remedy for bleeding hemroids, and in fact for hemroids of all kinds. The warmth of the water helps to improve circulation to the area, which allows blood to take away toxins that contribute to inflammation and pain while decreasing the pressure that contributes to active bleeding. It may even allow the injured hemroid to stop bleeding and begin healing. Do not put any additives into the sitz bath, and do not scrub the area with harsh soaps or cleansers. That will only irritate the surrounding tissue more and make the bleeding worse. In addition, taking ibuprofen tablets will help with both pain and inflammation, which again, may allow bleeding hemroids to start to heal. Avoid heavy lifting, and if desired, cleanse the area with very mild, unscented soap on a regular basis to keep infection at bay. Never scrub or roughly wipe bleeding hemroids for any reason, it only makes the damage worse.
BLEEDING HEMROIDS TREATMENT(Type: Internal Bleeding Hemroids )
While we'll be getting into more methods of dealing with self care for external bleeding hemroids in the next section, the above recommendations are the only home-care solutions medically approved for internal bleeding hemroids. There are currently no over the counter hemroid creams that are approved for internal bleeding hemroids use whatsoever. In addition, there are some remedies for internal hemroids bleeding that only a doctor can prescribe, such as internal creams. Why is there nothing you can buy over the counter for internal bleeding hemroids? Internal hemroids originate from tissue designed to absorb nutrients and liquids. Whatever we place on an internal bleeding hemroid - whether prolapsed or not - becomes absorbed into the body; akin to eating the treatment, creams and solutions stop being a topical application as such, even though you still think they are topical because you are not eating them as such. For more information on why you can't apply an external hemroids cream to an internal hemroid <-- just click. No creams, nor solutions, have passed the FDA approval process as being safe for application to internal bleeding hemroids. That is why a doctor needs to control the use of the special creams for internal bleeding hemroids, so that he can monitor and safeguard your health. For more information on do it yourself at own risk internal bleeding hemroids treatments.
BLEEDING HEMORRHOIDS TREATMENT(Type: External Bleeding Hemroids)
The most effective bleeding medical hemroid remedies are those that contain one or more active ingredients, such as vasoconstrictors, anesthetics, and astringents, carried in a protective base such as aluminum hydroxide gel, cocoa butter, glycerin, kaolin, lanolin, mineral oil, white petroleum, starch, zinc oxide, calamine, or cod liver oil. Before applying any cream, cleanse the area with a moistened tissue, either plain water or witch hazel solution is suitable in this case. Witch hazel is a good herbal hemroids remedy in and of itself, which is why many people use it to cleanse with. When using the moistened tissue, always dab, never wipe or scrub. To start with the protective element of the cream, in my opinion, glycerin, cocoa butter, and cod liver oil are good overall carriers, as these naturally based protective lubricants are gentle enough for most people. However, feel free to experiment with which carrier ingredient fits your needs the best. Your local pharmacist can direct you to which over the counter creams have which ingredients. Do not use lanolin under any circumstances if you have any allergy to wool whatsoever, I found that out while learning about breastfeeding. I have a very slight allergy to wool, but when I was given ultrapurified lanolin as a breastfeeding aid to help with chapping, I didn’t make the connection between lanolin and wool. That is, I didn’t make the connection until I had large scabs in unfortunate places that my daughter was needing to suck on. Calamine, also used in poison ivy medication, or zinc oxide cream, also used in sunblock and diaper ointment, are especially helpful with bleeding hemroids, as those two carriers are also astringent medications in their own right that can help bleeding to start to coagulate and therefore to heal. Remember to use them in their hemroid cream form for hemroids, other medications are not meant for hemroids. In a pinch, diaper ointment can help at least get you about your day, though, and can help to stop bleeding on an emergency basis. Creams for bleeding hemroids often include lidocaine, which is a local topical anesthetic that can help dull pain in such a sensitive area. Other localized topical anesthetics include benzocaine, benzyl alcohol, dibucaine, dyclonine, pramoxine, and tetracaine. These are not brand names for medications, the names of the active ingredients provided here can be found on the drug information panel of the medication’s box. They will usually be found as immediate relief in conjunction with other medications that treat hemroids on a more long term basis. Lidocaine is both the most common and generally reported as most effective at stopping pain quickly. Other bleeding hemroid creams can include extracts of herbs like witch hazel, which has an astringent effect used to help inflammation and bleeding. It often helps keep bleeding wounds clean as well, which is quite important in the area which hemroids are found. When using any sort of cream applicator, such as toilet paper, always remember to pat the area gently, and never, ever rub or scrub harshly. Doing so can only make already injured and bleeding hemroids worse. Astringents all provide relief by causing protein clumping in the skin, which leads to dryer skin, which leads to a decrease in itching, burning, pain, and bleeding. Applying clean vinegar with a sterile cotton ball is a home astringent that some have found to be effective, especially for bleeding hemroids. However, be aware that of all natural remedies used, witch hazel cream or pads are the most frequently recommended by doctors due to witch hazel’s extremely gentle and soothing action. The most powerful classification of medications for bleeding hemroids are vasoconstrictors, which are medicines that approximate the action of epinephrine, a naturally occurring chemical. Both epinephrine and synthetic vasoconstrictors work by shrinking blood vessels, which reduces both inflammation and bleeding. Topical vasoconstrictors, as opposed to the ones taken by mouth, have a low incidence of side effects. However, those side effects can include high blood pressure, nervousness, tremors, insomnia, and can have bad interactions with diabetes or hyperthyroidism. Do not take over the counter vasoconstrictors if you have either one of those latter two disorders or have difficulty urinating, cardiovascular disease, or are on any anti-depressant medication without consulting your doctor. Vasoconstrictors include ephedrine sulfate, epinephrine, and phenylephrine. Vasoconstrictors come in both external cream and internally taken tablet form. External creams are usually over the counter, but tablets are generally by prescription only. Your local pharmacist can assist you with choosing a vasoconstrictor cream, but see your doctor if you feel that tablets might be more helpful to deal with long term hemorrhoidal bleeding.
Bleeding Hemorrhoids in ConclusionIf any of these cures for bleeding hemroids do not stop the problem within a seven days, or if at any point your symptoms get worse, again, please see your doctor immediately. Bleeding hemroids are not a simple cold for which nothing can be done but wait, they are common but there are many ways of dealing with them. Therefore there is no reason whatsoever to suffer on in silence when an effective cure for bleeding hemroids is available no matter what stage they are in. In addition, any prolapsed hemroid, especially a bleeding prolapsed hemroid, needs to be seen by a doctor immediately. When an internal hemroid can be seen protruding from the anus, it is defined as a prolapsed hemroid and if left untreated can even become gangrenous due to having it's blood supply cut off by the powerful muscles of the anal sphincter. I bring these up because they are some of the most likely hemroids to start bleeding. If a prolapsed hemroid is bleeding, use the remedies for internal hemorrhoidal bleeding as it's still defined as an internal hemroid even though it's poking outside. In conclusion, while bleeding hemorrhoids may be quite an inconvenience, there is no reason that you can't treat them fairly inexpensively at home. In this instance, your local pharmacist is a wonderful, free resource to keep you up to date on the latest remedies available and what might be the right at-home solution for you.
