Some people obviously experience anal itching when they have hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids itching is possible one of the worst symptoms of hemorrhoids, as, if you scratch, you can end up doing damage to the skin round the anus, and damage to the hemorrhoids themselves.

For the most part, itching hemorrhoids are treated by people with soothing anti-inflammatories, as described on our hemorrhoids relief page or use a hemroid treatment that they can just buy easily.

But hemorrhoid itching is quite an interesting topic in it’s own right, and what’s more, the itching you have may not be due to hemorrhoids, even though you may have hemorrhoids.

So, if you are one of the few people that have real bad anal itching, especially if you have already used appropriate creams and remedies without much benefit on the anal itching, then I suspect you have another condition. Specifically, pubic lice.

Yes, you heard right, pubic lice!

Have a look at these photo’s below, that have been graciously given to me:

Anal pubic lice is a leading cause of severe almost unrelenting itching round the anus

and

Anal public lice and damaged caused to the anal area by scratching

Now, if you check out the photos on www.stdsandyou.com/parasitic-stds.html and check out the section for pubic lice, you will see that for the most part, pubic lice just appear as solid black dots. If you check out the two photos above, you will see the same solid black dots in the photos.

With the first photo, the itching was described as being “4-5 month ago I started iching at the bottom of the anus and a little at the top of the anus. It started in a period where I for some reason didn’t clean myself good enough after toilet visits. Iching and burning started. I could see a litttle lump at the bottom of the anus, but that was it. I started cleaning it thoughroughly, but that didn’t help. So I used some creme for hæmorrhoids containing mostly zinc. That didn’t helt either. It got worse so I went to se my physician and he gave me some other creme containing  hydrocortison. The anus now feels more irritated and the itching and burning hasn’t gone at all. I have used it for some days now.”

With the second photo, the comment was: “hi could you possibly recognise my condition had it around a week now, not painfull applying cream and taking anti imflamateries, bleeds a lot can be uncomfortable when passing a stool.” Interestingly, itching wasn’t mentioned, even though there was strong tiny cut marks, suggesting very vigorous scratching. Even the wound itself, may have been from a hard finger nail scratching the skin.

If you look at the real photos of hemorrhoids page, you will see that those black spots in the photos, don’t occur in the photos there.

Of course, just because you have a black spot or several doesn’t mean you have to have pubic lice, it could be ingrown hair or something like that, but getting checked for pubic lice is really important – pubic lice can be sexually transmitted, it can also be transmitted just from sitting on a towel that someone else had used before you. Itching is one of the prime symptoms of a pubic lice infection.
