Never underestimate the extreme importance of a hemorrhoids diet in dealing with hemorrhoids.

The two biggest culprits when it comes to hemorrhoids causes are diet and exercise.

A poor diet can give you either diarrhea or constipation, both of which lead to hemorrhoids over time.

Whether you're just trying to prevent hemorrhoids before they start or you're trying to get rid of them as quick and comfortable as you can, a hemorrhoids diet is often the place to start.

Some people think that if they take the right sort of medication or they go in for a surgical procedure, they've taken such extreme measures that they don't have to worry about their diet in the future.

Well, as long as you're ok with the idea of getting more hemorrhoids and going through the whole painful, embarrassing mess again, that's true.

However, for any hemorrhoids cure to really work, a good and ongoing hemorrhoids diet is a must.

 

Why A Hemorrhoids Diet Is A Good Idea

Why does a hemorrhoids diet play such a large role in both hemorrhoids prevention and cure?

Sure, a good diet is important to any healthy lifestyle, but why should it be so incredibly important when it comes to hemorrhoids? The answer lies within the gastrointestinal tract.

While it's an uncomfortable area to talk about socially, the tissues around the anus are very complex. That complexity allows the rectum, anus and anal sphincter to go on functioning around the clock, usually without bothering you in the least. However, if you abuse those tissues too far, they will develop problems.

Everyone, with or without hemorrhoids, has "hemorrhoidal cushions" within the anal sphincter itself.

Those cushions shrink or swell depending on what's needed.

They protect the ligaments holding up the anal canal, both from the twisting and turning of the body during normal movement and from stools passing by.

In addition, when pressure is placed on these hemorrhoidal cushions from a stool, it sends a nerve signal to your brain telling you to use the toilet. While you're getting there, the hemorrhoidal cushions also help give you control.

These hemorrhoidal cushions are fed with blood from the abdomen.

The swelling or shrinking of the veins within these tissue cushions is what lets hemorrhoidal cushions do what they do.

However, you can force a lot of blood into these cushions through excessive muscle pressure from the abdomen.

This excess of blood within the stretchy veins of the hemorrhoidal cushions is one of the leading causes of hemorrhoids.

If a vein wall gets stretched so far that it can't contract again, the wall starts to collapse out into the surrounding tissue, thus causing a hemorrhoid.

So, excessive abdominal straining from constipation or diarrhea directly leads to hemorrhoids.

External hemorrhoids work a little differently, as they start from veins that drain the blood from hemorrhoidal cushions. The vein dips to the outside of the body before going back up towards the heart, and the same hydraulic principles apply.

Constipation and diarrhea can lead to internal or external hemorrhoids, or both at the same time.

In addition, your diet determines how much nutrients your body has to use.

This stretching and contracting of the vein walls requires lots of energy and nutrients to keep the vein muscles functioning and in good shape.

Overall cardiovascular muscle tone is a requirement to general good health, and a good hemorrhoids diet also helps keep your cardiovascular tone where it should be.

 

What Constitutes A Good Hemorrhoids Diet?

Sufficient fiber, water and nutrients are all necessary to a good hemorrhoids diet.

A healthy human should ingest between 20 to 35 grams of fiber per day, along with about 64 ounces of water in order to keep the gastrointestinal tract moving properly and in good repair.

More than 35 grams per day would be too much fiber and could start robbing water from the body in addition to causing blockage problems.

Of course, there are plenty of fiber supplements out there you could take, but why not look first to food sources for your fiber.

High fiber foods include whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and beans.

Using these foods to create your hemorrhoids diet will both increase your fiber intake and give you excellent nutrition simultaneously, which no fiber supplement out there on the market today can boast.

In addition, as you're eating these new, healthy foods included in a hemorrhoids diet, you won't be eating fattening foods low in nutritional value.

You'll probably notice weight loss, more energy and all of the other physical and psychological benefits of a healthy diet.

When introducing new, high fiber foods into your hemorrhoids diet, go slowly.

If you go from a low-fiber diet immediately up to the maximum daily allowance, you will make yourself miserable.

One of the functions of fiber in the gastrointestinal tract is to clean out debris and waste. In effect, it acts like a scrubber brush on your insides. If you eat too much fiber all at once, all of that waste will start moving at once, giving you gas, bloating and nausea.

Once you get up to a good fiber and water intake on your hemorrhoids diet, both diarrhea and constipation should be things of the past.

When taken with adequate water, fiber creates large, bulky, soft stools. It absorbs the excess water that can lead to diarrhea, but never lets stools get so hard and compact that constipation results.

If you design your hemorrhoids diet well, you'll both enjoy eating it and enjoy a myriad of beneficial effects.

First off, if you had no other underlying health conditions making hemorrhoids more likely, those will now be a thing of the past.

In addition, a healthy hemorrhoids diet will lessen your chances of colon cancer, other types of cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, thyroid dysfunction and infection.

A good diet is the foundation of any healthy lifestyle, after all.

The benefits of a well-designed hemorrhoids diet extend beyond just what you can avoid.

You'll also sleep better, have more energy, be able to relax when you want to, and suffer less from stress overall. You'll feel better, and so you'll live better.

You don't have to eat horse food in order to get these pleasant benefits, either.

A tasty and satisfying hemorrhoids diet can easily be crafted from the huge number of foods available.

 

How To Create A Hemorrhoids Diet You Can Live With

You'll need to create a hemorrhoids diet you can enjoy, because you'll need to be able to stick with it for life.

Many people start their hemorrhoids diet with fresh fruit for its immense appeal.

Apples, peaches, pears and tangerines are all high in fiber, though any fresh fruit offers at least some.

Grated apples, grated carrots and chopped walnuts tossed together creates an appealing salad for any time of day.

Fresh peaches with a low-fat whipped topping and a dash of nutmeg is a quick, fiber rich dessert.

Baked, raisin studded pears in a light honey glaze are sufficient to make the mouth water.

Vegetables in your hemorrhoids diet

When you're ready to consider adding vegetables to your hemorrhoids diet, consider an acorn squash split in half, drizzled in sweet almond oil and cinnamon, and baked at 350 until soft.

Vegetables shouldn't be a trial of your commitment to eating healthy, and there are dozens of ways to prepare them in wonderful arrangements.

Banish childhood veggie fears forever with steamed broccoli with a light vinaigrette, or steamed asparagus in blood-orange sauce.

The place of magnificent beans in a hemorrhoids diet.

Beans provide a lot of fiber for the well-designed hemorrhoids diet.

However, many people have a justifiable hatred of beans, but many people have also had badly prepared beans.

If cooked incorrectly, beans can both taste bad and make you miserable.

Dried beans absolutely must be soaked before cooking. The water they soak in should be thrown away, not used to cook them.

To soak dried beans, place them in a pot three times the size of the total beans. Cover with water and add an inch more. Let the beans soak overnight or over 24 hours. They will double or even triple in size. Stir the soaking beans with your hands occasionally and discard anything that floats to the surface.

Once the dried beans have been thoroughly soaked, drain and wash them in the sink. Then and only then are they ready to be cooked into a pleasant, appealing dish. Soaking in this manner neutralizes many enzymes in the beans that would otherwise cause major gastrointestinal misery.

Through proper soaking, you get the fiber benefit for your hemorrhoids diet without getting bloat, gas and nausea besides.

The best bean recipe I've found is red beans and rice, from my childhood in New Orleans.

It involves beans, long grain rice, and relatively little meat, making it perfect for a hemorrhoids diet.

Soak about two pounds of small, dark red kidney beans overnight, drain, and rinse well. Put the beans on low heat with about one quart of fresh water. Peel and chop one large onion, one large green bell pepper, and several stalks of celery. Heat about a teaspoon of vegetable oil in a skillet and saute all the vegetables together until browned. Put your vegetables into the bean pot along with about a pound of smoked sausage and a few bay leaves.

Cook over low to medium heat for two to three hours. The beans need to simmer, but never boil. Some of the beans will probably disintegrate during cooking to thicken the liquid to a creamy consistency, but if they don't you can always help them along with a blender or mixer. Ladle some out, blend till creamy, and pour back in.

Prepare a large pot of long grain, brown rice according to the directions. White rice doesn't go well in a hemorrhoids diet because it tends to be high in starch and low in fiber, but brown rice is wonderfully flavorful. At the last minute, add oregano, parsley, sage, thyme, salt, pepper and Tabasco sauce to the beans to your own taste, mix well, and serve over the rice. Don't add these spices too soon because long cooking will make them bitter.

When you serve the beans, turn the burner off. By the time you're done with dinner, the beans and rice will have cooled enough to put in the refrigerator, and it gets even better overnight.

Cereals in your hemorrhoids diet

Whole grain breads included in your hemorrhoids diet should not taste as though made of sawdust.

When baked correctly, these are the most moist and flavorful breads you can find.

I prefer my whole-grain bread with a light topping of extra-virgin olive oil mixed with a tiny bit of salt and pepper.

You could put thick slices of summer tomato on whole wheat bread with small bits of mozzarella under the broiler for five to ten minutes.

In winter, Italian bruschetta topping is easy to make with diced, drained tomatoes, olive oil and Italian seasonings. Mix well together, leave in the refrigerator overnight to go on bread slices at will.

When switching over to whole grain breads for your hemorrhoids diet, keep an eye out for quality.

Make sure that the whole grain flour is the first of the listed ingredients, and don't get it if it crumbles easily or tastes gritty.

Whole grain breads should be as soft and springy as high-quality white bread, though you won't find the bland softness of mass-produced white bread. The texture of the bread should be silky, not sandy.

In addition, whenever you get whole grain bread, watch for mold carefully.

If bread starts to get mold or even smells funny, seal up the bag and throw it away immediately. Mold is often dangerous, and whole grain bread flour often hasn't been through the bleaching or chemical treatments that would completely eliminate mold spores from the field.

Truly dangerous molds are incredibly rare, but they are still something to be aware of.

A good hemorrhoids diet is one that fits in with your taste, your lifestyle, and your health conditions.

If you're prone to hemorrhoids, you'll probably be eating some variation on your hemorrhoids diet for the rest of your life, so make sure it's one you can live with.
