It is important to realise that hemorrhoids are the result of gastrointestinal problems for the most part - eg things that cause constipation have their effect in the gastrointestinal tract - so taking a substance that is known to have an adverse effect on the gastrointestinal tract is not such a great idea, and taken internally, witch hazel can also affect the function of a myriad of other drugs and supplements you may be taking. Having said that, for a healthy person, witch hazel is considered safe to take internally even if pregnant (though I would not suggest you use during pregnancy).
