How long do hemorrhoids last?

Pregnancy hemorrhoids will last for a while after the birth, but then will mostly go away of their own accord as the hormones settle - sometimes a skin tag may be left behind, when an external hemorrhoid has stretched the skin to far.

Hemorrhoids from other causes will likely stay and just get worse, they can last as long as your life span is, unless you tend to them and heal them.

Internal hemorrhoids are not seen by you, nor by people looking for you, so what they look like is pretty irrelevant.

Prolapsed hemroids look like dangling grapes in miniature form, hanging out of the hole. If they are thrombosed or particularly bad, they may look very large and very swollen - not a pretty sight, a scary one at that point.

External hemroids look like a small pea or elongated pea under the surface of the skin near the anus, but arising on the anal rim, not coming through it.
